How to Challenge Perfectionism

How to Challenge Perfectionism

Are you tired of feeling like you’re just not good enough?

Are you ready to say goodbye to perfectionism?

If so, you’re in the right place. Keep on reading.

Acknowledge Your Perfectionism:

Before you can start challenging your perfectionism, you have to acknowledge that it’s there.

Think about it this way. You can’t work on something you aren’t even aware of.

Think Logically:

When we’re nervous or upset, it’s easy for our minds to jump to unrealistic worst-case scenarios.

It’s interesting that so many of the things we worry about, never even happen.

Here’s an example. Have you ever submitted an important document to your boss with a few mistakes? We all have at least once.

When that happens, you have 2 choices. You can either jump to the absolute worst-case scenario or stay calm and examine the facts. We all make small mistakes from time to time and that is completely okay. That’s why pencils have erasers, right?

Writing:

Writing down your thoughts and ideas can help you look at challenging situations in a new way.

When we have so many things on our mind, thoughts can easily become exaggerated, which can bring on anxiety. The next time you catch yourself feeling overwhelmed or like you aren’t good enough, here’s what you’re going to do.

1) Sit down.
2) Practice deep breathing.
3) Pull out a pen and paper.
4) Write down exactly how you feel and what you’re afraid of.

Once you’ve had time to calm down, you can look over your list and reflect.

Be Kind:

We know you’ve likely heard this tip before, but we will repeat it since it is a great one. In life, you need to be your own best friend. Your thoughts impact you in so many ways. The next time you make a mistake, don’t be so hard on yourself. Instead, talk to yourself like you would a best friend.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others:

It’s time to stop comparing yourself to others. We understand that it’s easier said than done. But breaking that habit can change your life.

No matter how talented and amazing you are at anything in life, there will always be someone out there with more experience. And that is not a bad thing. We are all different and have our own stories. That’s what makes us unique.

The only person you should ever compare yourself to is yourself. There is only one you, and you should be proud of that.
