We can’t believe that we are officially in December, and the holiday season is approaching. They say this is the most wonderful time of the year.

And for a good reason – we get to spend quality time with loved ones, eat delicious food, and binge-watch our favorite holiday shows. However, sometimes the holidays can be a little stressful.

Everything from last-minute shopping to writing and stamping dozens of cards can be a lot.  

One of the best ways to reduce stress is to prevent it before it even begins.

These tips and tricks can help you get started.

Acknowledge Your Feelings:

As you know, this holiday season we won’t be able to attend holiday events as usual, and some traditions may be slightly adjusted.

Even though we can spend time with loved ones via Zoom, it is completely normal to feel sad or disappointed.

Yes, we can look for silver linings and try our best to be optimistic. But the truth is, we can’t always prevent negative emotions.  

If you are feeling something, go ahead and feel it. The sooner you express those emotions, the sooner you can move past them.

If you’re feeling stressed or sad right now, don’t be afraid to open up to a friend. Even if there is nothing they can do, talking does help.

Be Realistic:

The holidays do not have to be perfect in order to be special.

Even though your friends and family may not be able to come to your home this holiday season, you can still celebrate.  You can still have dinner and open presents together virtually. 


Shopping for dozens of presents last minute is far from fun.

No one enjoys feeling rushed or pressured. You don’t have to do all your shopping in one day if you don’t want to. 

Planning ahead gives you the luxury of taking your time and spending your money wisely. 

Say No:

You are only one person and only have so many hours in a day to get things done.

Every time you say yes to something you don’t want to do, you are saying no to something you want to do. Just because it’s the holidays, that does not mean your self-care rituals should be put on hold.
